We shored up the wall, But the sea rolled in regardless. An end we could not forestall, A shrouding in darkness.
Now they think they’ve won, We can only object on their terms. They broke our barrier, eclipsed the sun, But the world still turns.
But no, you’ll never peel my rage from me, Nor the hope we whisper in the dark to each other. Too many want to be free, And that flame cannot be smothered.
So we hold out our hands, To raise each other high. We build our strength for another stand, Our movement never dies.
I think for me, recent years have shown just how difficult it can be to get a fair hearing for left wing politics… but we’re nothing if not resilient. Coming together to push back is inherent to what we believe and the social change we want to see. I suspect, on some level, everyone knows they’ve been atomised, disempowered and forced to tread water by the way we run the world. It doesn’t have to be that way though, we can band together, we can raise each other’s voices and we can fight back.
So find comrades, build together, a better world is possible and we will rise again.
