The Passing

Sanguinian
Mar 18, 2024

It came quickly,
Not a flash, or a blink,
More a glimpse.
A dark shadow fell
In the corner of an eye,
And when your head turned,
They were gone.
Over the bridge
That we must all cross,
Eventually.
Not enough time
For long goodbyes,
Fond farewells.
A slip into the void.
Better, they did not linger,
Pressed upon the sharp edge,
The unrelenting precipice
Between here and there.
But the tears still sting,
And hearts still ache, all the same.
I send you my love
And hope that time will lift
The burden of loss,
Letting better memories shine through.
For they are waiting,
Ready to be rediscovered.

I wrote this for a close friend of mine when they lost someone.
